About Me

I am a tremendous design tooling (Figma / Rive / Blender / Claude Code / Paper) nerd; refactoring components soothes my soul. A lifelong learner and teacher, I'm always sharing tools, tips, and tricks within my organization. When I hit a wall, I learn harder, then share that knowledge with my peers.

My work focuses on building considered, captivating, and delightful products. My process is grounded in a rich practice of motion design and typography, with a devotion to communication above all else.

I'm a well-rounded designer with motion design chops, frontend dev skills, two deaf parents, and multiple years of experience as a sighted guide to a blind man.

Most importantly, I coordinate across my organization to bring helpful tools to my peers.

Let's talk

Lyft App Icons

One of my favorite 2024 projects improved the accessibility of every Lyft app. With iOS 18's tinting and hidable labels, we needed to add a signifier (beyond color) for our Alpha/Beta/Dev versions. Ended up at 384 icons, covering our Passenger, Driver, and Bikeshare apps across Production, Alpha, Beta, and Development versions. Here's the Passenger app, in Light & Dark Mode.

Product Design Manager Lyft

Mordechai consistently delivers high quality design system solutions, collaborates closely with team members, acts as a resource for others, & drives initiatives that strengthen the design organization.

Of note, the Design Systems team lacks PMs (including DPMs & TPMs), so his project ownership entails roadmap prioritization, stakeholder management, & time management beyond what is expected of other product designers at Lyft.

Mordechai is an active participant in team discussions and has fostered strong working relationships with everyone on design systems. He consistently surfaces process improvements to help our teams work more efficiently, is the first to post about new tools/plugins, and even intuits what will expedite the work of the staff engineers on the team.

His ability to distill complicated migration flows into digestible & engaging short videos is exemplary and sets the standard for not just design systems but all of design at Lyft. He goes above and beyond for system users by not just responding to reported bugs & requests but proactively finding ways to make our libraries more efficient – all without fanfare.

Lead Software Engineer Output

Thoughtfulness, adaptability, and lightheartedness: qualities Mordechai demonstrated to me are pivotal in building product when I worked with him at Output, a music technology company.

Mordechai's determination to continually drive to the why behind user needs, to diverge on problems openly and converge on solutions decisively, and to collaborate closely with us every step of the way, brought certainty to his team working in the complex, uncertain landscape that is music technology. A listener at heart, Mordechai would continually work to not only hear the team's point-of-view when gathering design feedback but to also fully ingest, study, and incorporate it into increasingly thoughtful designs across multiple product surface areas.

When working with Mordechai, I always had a funny feeling he was thinking of ways to make my life easier as a developer. Whether it be considering development effort when producing designs, finding new tools to aid in handoff, contributing source code, or delivering a well placed pun during hard times, I always felt Mordechai was there for me. He's the positive, supportive spirit we all wish for and need on our teams.

Senior Product Designer Lyft

Mordechai is THE driving force behind the designer experience and design tooling at Lyft, and his commitment to excellence is evident in every project he undertakes. His ownership on initiatives like the Listening Tour, Dev Mode Pilot Program, and our Driver Partnership has been impressive; he navigates ambiguity with ease and a relentless, contagious positivity.

His recent work redesigning all of Lyft's app icon designs also exemplified this commitment, as he went above and beyond to push for the right approach, aligning design systems, Driver team partners, and brand marketing — a testament to his ability to unite teams for impactful outcomes.

Mordechai also excels in his internal and external speaking commitments, championing both the Lyft brand and Design+ culture in ways that elevate our work.
